Product Details:
Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) is a unique chemical entity in a class of antithrombotic agents known as low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWH). Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) was approved in the United States and Canada in 1993, and it has been available in Europe since 1987. Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) is the only low-molecular-weight heparin in the United States approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 7 approved indications for the prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic disease.

Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) is an anticoagulant ("anti" means against and "coagulant" refers to clotting) that is used to help reduce the risk of the formation of blood clots in patients at risk.

Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) is given by an injection under the skin (subcutaneously or SC). This can be done by you or an appropriate caregiver (your nurse will teach you or your caregiver how to do this).

Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) and warfarin have been prescribed to treat harmful clots. While taking these medications, there are several things you should know. First, it is important to take these medications at the same time every day. If you need to, mark the calendar as you take each medication to remind yourself that you have taken it for the day. Also, take only the amount of Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) prescribed for you. Do not change any doses of Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) unless you have been instructed to do so. Finally, be very careful about taking any over-the-counter medications. Many medications can affect how Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) and warfarin work and could potentially cause problems. Therefore, it is always best to check with your doctor before taking any new medications.

Remember:

Take Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) at the same time(s) each day, as prescribed by your doctor.

For instructions on what to do if you miss a dose, call your doctor immediately.

Continue the injections for exactly the number of days specified by your doctor.

Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) should be stored at controlled room temperature, 59¦F to 77¦F (15¦C to 25¦C).

While you use Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection), it is important not to take any other medications, including over-the-counter medications such as aspirin, unless they are prescribed or approved by your health care professionals.

Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection), like all medications, may have side effects. These Lovenox side effects are most often related to an increased risk of bleeding.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTIFY YOUR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL IF YOU NOTICE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

Bleeding or oozing from surgical wound

Any other bleeding episodes; for example, bleeding at the site of the injection, nosebleeds, blood in your urine, or if you cough or vomit blood

Spontaneous bruising (a bruise not caused by a blow or any apparent reason)

Pain or swelling in any part of your leg, foot, or hip

Dizziness, numbness, or tingling

Rapid or unusual heartbeat

Chest pain or shortness of breath

Vomiting, nausea, or fever

Confusion

Accidental overdose may result in severe bleeding, which cannot be treated at home. If you suspect that you have used too much Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection), it is important that you call your health care professional immediately even if you do not observe any unusual symptoms. Your health care professional can then make a decision on proper treatment. Take Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) at the same time each day. Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) should be injected into the layer of fat just under the skin in your stomach. Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection) should never be injected into muscle, as bleeding into the muscle may occur. By gently pinching the skin between your fingers throughout the injection, you allow the medicine to enter only the fatty tissue of your stomach and not muscle.

When choosing an injection site:

Make sure that the site is easy to reach

Avoid injecting yourself too close to your belly button or around existing scars or bruises

Alternate your injection sites as instructed by your health care professional

It is important to check old injection sites for:

Redness, pain, warmth, puffiness, discoloration of the skin, or oozing, which could be signs of infection or a skin reaction. If any of these conditions should occur, contact your physician.
